In Canada, a formal assessment for dyslexia, learning disabilities and other diagnoses can only be completed by a registered psychologist (or school-based psychologist) and a diagnosis, if found, must be noted according to criteria met through the DSM-5 (medical criteria).
Screening determines the level of risk for reading problems in general and the potential risk of having or developing dyslexia. Screening tests are informal tests that are designed to provide indications of possible dyslexia traits or issues.
